Invasion Earth by Harnois75 Invasion Earth by Harnois75
The Daleks invade Earth.

Mostly traditional painting, although I decided to go a bit wild eventually and darkened the whole image considerably from a daylight scene and relight it either as a sunset, or perhaps as parts of London are burning during the bombardment of the plague virus.

Image is available as various sized wallpapers on my web site, and with more background info.

even though it looks quite peaceful due to the pinks and blues and purples of the sky ect, this picture terrifies me. It makes me think of War of the World. With the Martians just wondering around, destroying anything in their path.

I love it - the dark/red lighting gives it an apocalyptic feel that a normal daylight scene wouldn't have.

They're still around even after the 10th Doctor? They're like the Borg;they never go away! The lighting is dramatic and only underlies how sinister these rolling machines are.

Well there are countles different groups of daleks in countless areas of the endless reaches of space and so many different time lines and eras and what not, that it is highly unlikely that The Daleks will ever be exterminated. Their primary function is to Survive by any means nessisary, that is what they were created to do, on top of being the superior race in the solar system. Daleks are suivors, they will always be around.

How gorgeous is this? It's so atmospheric! It makes me want to rewatch the serial, but I know I'll be disappointed that doesn't look this good!

Great work.
Also nice to see a few modern buildings in the background (which the Daleks must have used for target practice before the Doctor and co arrived).

this is a fantastic piece with the daleks deep within the heart of london

also with the falling stars or more invading ships in the background it also feels a bit like war of the worlds too

which also is no bad thing too

cheers

Excellent work once again, Daryl! Very, very impressive indeed!

I'd like to ask if you have any plans to realise anything not shown on TV like the Time War, the Doctor's eighth regeneration? Or maybe something significant from the books and audio stories in art form? I know I'd certainly like to see the 8th Doctor's book companions realised in art and I think you'd be the guy to do it. Just some food for thought. Keep up the fantastic work, pal!

I've often thought about doing something with McGanns Doctor trying to stop a major conflict between the Timelords and the Daleks, perhaps through some battle elsewhere that grew out of all propotion and became a universal conflict - total mayhem involving Ice Warriors, Sontarans and Rutans in an all out raging war that the Time Lords had to step in to halt, opening the way for the Daleks to take control. Ending up with Doctor 8 on a future Earth being pursued by Daleks. He's wounded and left for dead, found by a few surviving humans who have taken to living underground. He regenerates and somewhere down the line the Daleks infiltrate the human underground hideaways and burn them. Hense the Doctor runs for his life down a burning corridor and gets to the TARDIS as pratically everything in the universe goes balistic.

Difficult to paint though.

That is certainly one very impressive scenario you've thought up there. It's so impressive that no amount of art work would probably ever give any justice to so I guess it isn't surprising that you'd find it difficult to paint. And that's okay. RTD always intended the Time War to be so big that no amount of CGI used either on TV or even on a movie budget would give any justice to. If RTD thinks movies couldn't handle it then artists don't have a chance...but it won't stop me from imagining what it must have been like or wishing for someone to try and take it on through either art or fanfic.

Excellent work - Evokes images of the classic days!
I think the latest series revamp is going to return
to the 1963 "Invasion" era, and it's about time!

:D
